A funded PhD student position is available in the Engineering School of Sustainable Infrastructure & Environment (ESSIE) at the University of Florida beginning in Spring 2023 or Fall 2023. The student will be a member of an interdisciplinary team studying flow dynamics and sediment transport in salt marshes using numerical simulations. Responsibility include model development and simulation of flow-vegetation interaction and boat wake impacts on ecogeomorphic processes of salt marshes.
Ideal applicants will have a degree in civil, coastal, or environmental engineering (or equivalent), excellent written and oral communication skills, and a demonstrated potential to conduct research as part of an interdisciplinary team. Prior experience in computational fluid dynamics modelling, scientific programming of numerical methods, and data analysis are highly desired. Experience modelling flow-structure interactions and in science communication are additional assets.
Interested students should send their resume/CV and a brief statement outlining their research interest in a single PDF file to Dr. Xiao Yu (xia...@essie.ufl.edu).
