Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to introduce session S_054 Unravelling timing and spatial distribution of geomorphic processes from the Quaternary sedimentary record, planned for INQUA 2027, which will be held in India.

Convener: Ettore Valente, Ciro Cerrone, Giuseppe Corrado, Francesco Pavano

The deadline for the submission of abstracts is 15 February 2026.
Detailed information regarding the session, including abstract submission guidelines, is available at:
https://www.inquaindia2027.in/call-submissions

Session description: Landscape evolution results from the complex interplay between erosional and depositional processes acting over varying spatial and temporal scales. Mountains erode while basins fill, often at complementary rates. These rates can vary over time due to external factors like climate and tectonics, or internal dynamics such as delta processes and river captures. Competition between these factors makes reconstructing landscape evolution history challenging. To address these issues, classical geomorphological analyses are often combined with morphometric and stratigraphic data from both exposed and buried Quaternary deposits, as well as from analogue and numerical modelling. Absolute dating of these deposits offers crucial chronological constraints.

This session welcomes studies on:
-The influence of climate, lithology, and tectonics on geomorphic processes
-Quaternary morphostratigraphy
-Landscape evolution modeling
-Detecting uplift through displaced Quaternary landforms or deposits

We look forward to welcoming you to INQUA 2027 in Lucknow, India.

Best regards,
Ciro Cerrone
on behalf of the conveners
