The Marine Modelling Group at University of Galway, Ireland, invites applications for a full-time, 4-year, postdoctoral position in wave forecasting.

Project description

The succesful candidate will design, implement and optimise a state-of-the-art,, high-resolution operational wave forecasting system for the Irish coast to produce real-time forecasts that directly support national services and decision-makers. The system will be benchmarked against measured data and an existing lower resolution forecsat model. The project will also investigate the potential for forecast improvement through data assimilation and tidal model coupling.

Your profile

  • You must hold a Doctoral degree in Civil/Mechanical Engineering, Coastal/Ocean Engineering, Physical Oceanography, or a related discipline, or have at least submitted your PhD thesis at the time of application.
  • You must have a solid background in wave modelling (e.g. SWAN, WW3) including model development and calibration/validation.
  • You must possess strong programming skills (e.g., Matlab, Python, Fortran, C++)

Salary 

Postdoctoral Researcher/Research Associate salary scale €46,805 - €59,654 per annum, (subject to the project’s funding limitations).
