Dear Colleagues from Coastal List,

I take the chance to share this opportunity should you or somebody in your network be interested,

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to our upcoming Research Topic titled “Navigating change: Transformative approaches in ocean planning”, hosted in Frontiers in Ocean Sustainability under the section Marine Governance. As ocean systems face increasing pressures from climate change, biodiversity loss, and expanding maritime industries, the need for adaptive, equitable, and forward-thinking planning frameworks has never been greater. This Research Topic seeks to explore how ocean planning can move beyond static models to support transformative change across marine environments.

We welcome submissions from scholars, practitioners, and experts working in areas such as:

  • Emerging landscapes of ocean energy systems, their socio-ecological effects and implications for ocean planning
  • Case studies or use cases of Digital Twin Ocean for Maritime Spatial planning and ocean management
  • Governing climate change through Maritime Spatial Planning
  • Integrating justice, equity, and inclusion in ocean planning
  • Ecosystem-based approaches for ocean planning
  • Recent applications and advancements in Cumulative Effect Assessment
  • Embedding Social-Ecological Systems approaches into Maritime Spatial Planning
  • Interdisciplinary and participatory methods in ocean planning and coastal zone management

Other contributions within this overarching theme will also be considered.

We are particularly interested in innovative research that applies new methods or frameworks in real-world contexts, helping to bridge the gap between theory and practice.

Accepted article types include (but are not limited to): Original Research, Review, Policy and Practice Reviews, Methods, Case Studies, and Perspectives.

This is a great opportunity to contribute to an interdisciplinary dialogue on how ocean planning can evolve to meet the complex challenges of the 21st century. We hope you consider submitting your work or sharing this invitation with colleagues who may be interested.
