Dear colleagues,

This is a final call for contributions to the following special issue in the Journal of Environmental Management:

Coastal nature-based solutions: successes, failures, and future uncertainties
Submission deadline: 31 August 2026

Summary: Coastal nature-based solutions (NbS), such as living shorelines, mangroves, dunes, and saltmarshes are increasingly recognised for their role in enhancing coastal resilience. These approaches can stabilise shorelines, enhance biodiversity, sequester carbon, and reduce hazard risks. However, while there is evidence of coastal NbS short-term successes, there is limited understanding of their long-term performance, trade-offs, and broader system-wide implications. We, therefore, invite contributions that address this through case studies, theoretical insights, and methodological innovations. We particularly welcome submissions that examine the biophysical, socioeconomic, governance, and morphological dimensions of coastal NbS, to better understand their longevity, trade-offs, and implications across diverse coastal settings.

Please consider submitting your work by 31 August 2026, and feel free to share this call with relevant colleagues and networks.

Further details are available here.

Best wishes,
Avidesh
