Call for Manuscripts Dedicated Issue of Shore and Beach,
“Extreme Coastal Events: Lessons Learned”
OVERVIEW: The American Shore & Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA) invites manuscripts on “Extreme Coastal Events: Lessons Learned” for a Dedicated Issue (DI) of ASBPA’s journal Shore & Beach (S&B). This dedicated issue will be published in late-2024.
SCHEDULE:
The expecting publishing timeline for this dedicated issue is as follows:
•
Draft papers submitted: June 15
• Draft papers reviewed: July 15
• Revised papers submitted: August 16
SPECIAL ISSUE DETAILS: Recent extreme events, including tropical and extra tropical storms, have impacted on our coasts, people, and the economy. Over the past several years, the North Atlantic hurricane predictions have been slightly above average in terms of the number of named storms, hurricanes, and major hurricanes. At the same time, water levels throughout the Pacific and Great Lakes reached record high levels, resulting in significant flooding and loss of coastal material and structures. This dedicated issue invites papers on recent extreme coastal event observations, impact assessments, predictions, or simply valuable lessons learned from projects impacted by these extreme events. We encourage submissions across a very broad range of topics, with the hope that your contributions will help our community develop an improved understanding of extreme events and storm impacts for improving the resilience of our coastal communities.
TOPICS: Paper submissions across a broad range of storm-related topics are encouraged and a few specific examples include:
• Case studies, post project assessments, post-storm project repairs, and/or lessons learned
• Performance of coastal systems including natural and built coastal environments
• Ability of natural and nature-based features (vegetation, living shorelines, reefs, wetlands, etc.) to provide coastal storm risk or damage reduction
• Observations or analysis of storm-driven coastal processes, including measurements, modeling methods, and modeling results
• Advances in forecasting and simulation of coastal storms and their hazards
• Long-term trends and changes in storm intensity, seasonal occurrence, and associated trends in coastal processes
SUBMISSIONS: Author instructions for manuscript submission to Shore & Beach are available at http://asbpa.org/publications/shore-and-beach/. Manuscripts should be no more than 10,000 word equivalents. Figures will be published electronically in color, and grayscale in the print version, unless authors are able to pay page charges.
Please indicate your interest in submitting a manuscript and/or service as a reviewer via email to managing editor, Elizabeth Manus (mg_e...@aspba.org) and special issue editors, Tiffany Roberts Briggs (bri...@fau.edu), Lindino Benedet (lben...@coastalprotectioneng.com), and Tim Kana (tk...@coastalscience.com).
Turnaround time for publication in Shore & Beach is rapid compared with most journals. We are seeking early expressions of interest from authors so we can plan the issue accordingly. Thank you for your consideration. We look forward to hearing from you.
JOURNAL DETAILS: Shore & Beach publishes quality refereed papers of interest to a diverse audience of scientists, engineers, coastal managers and government officials. Papers cover a full spectrum of coastal topics from beach erosion and restoration to coastal zone management, sea level rise issues, economics of the coast, and environmental impacts. Articles should appeal and be accessible to an interdisciplinary audience.
Please reach out to indicate intent to submit or if you have any questions!
Thanks,
Tiffany
