The Department of Ocean Engineering at the University of Rhode Island (URI) invites applications at the Assistant Professor level from outstanding individuals with demonstrated expertise or research potential in the broad area of Naval Architecture and/or Naval Engineering. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to, marine hydrodynamics, fluid/wave-structure interactions, marine structures, floating offshore structures, ocean systems and control, and computational/experimental investigations related to these topics.

We expect to fill this tenure-track, academic-year, position, in the Spring or Fall of 2022 with an ideal start date of January or September 2022. Interested applicants can learn more about the department by visiting its web site (https://web.uri.edu/engineering/about/ocean-engineering/).

The successful candidate will be expected to establish a nationally and internationally recognized research program, and become an international leaders in this field. She/He will have earned a doctorate in Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related Naval Engineering fields.

Qualifications Required:

1.  An earned doctorate in Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related Naval Engineering fields at the time of appointment.

 

2.   Demonstrated ability to teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

 

3.   Demonstrated record of scholarly achievement evidenced by publications, presentations, or awards.

 

4.   Demonstrated evidence working with diverse groups/populations (not limited to race, ethnicity, and gender).

 

5.   Demonstrated proficiency in written communication  skills.

 

6.   Demonstrated proficiency in oral communication  skills.

 

Preferred:

  1. Research in Naval Architecture and related Naval Engineering fields.
  2. Ability to teach marine hydrodynamics, marine systems and controls, marine structures, and principal of naval architecture courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including experimental laboratory courses.
  3. Research publications in professional journals commensurate with experience.
