The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s Field Research Facility (FRF) is a coastal oceanographic observatory and research facility located in Duck, NC. The FRF is housed on 176 acres of oceanfront and soundfront land in the Outer Banks, providing a unique site for measurement of coastal processes. Morphology change of the beach and surf zone have been measured on site since the 1970s and the FRF maintains numerous real-time measurements of waves and currents across the surf zone. Ongoing research at the FRF is focused on the development of novel measurement techniques of nearshore processes, including measurements of waves, currents, sediment transport, and morphology change via in-situ instruments and remote sensing (cameras, radar, and lidar) technologies. Additionally, applied research projects utilize these field datasets for numerical model development and application efforts.

We are currently seeking to fill a full-time, federal research support staff position to assist with ongoing research initiatives focused on numerical modeling of the surf zone, swash zone, and dune morphodynamics. Candidates with a master's degree in oceanography, engineering, computer science, or the geosciences who have relevant numerical modeling experience applied to sandy coastal systems, along with strong scientific coding skills (Python, Julia, Matlab, C++, Fortran), are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have strong problem solving and data analysis skills, technical writing experience, and work well in a team. All interested candidates (must have U.S. citizenship) are encouraged to send a cover letter, C.V., and unofficial transcript or follow up with any questions to Dr. Jeffrey Waters, at Jeffrey....@usace.army.mil.

Thanks!

-Nick
