We invite you to submit an abstract to the following session for the AGU26 Fall Meeting, EP005: Aquatic Restoration, Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) and Resilience in the Face of Climate Change

Sea-level rise, land development and hydrologic changes put freshwater and coastal ecosystems and the vital services they provide at risk. In response, restoration of aquatic habitats such as floodplains, wetlands, streams or creeks and nature-based solutions (NbS) comprising habitat mosaics of vegetation (mangroves, saltmarshes, seagrasses) and reef-forming species (oyster and coral) are gaining recognition as sustainable infrastructure to restore ecological function while enhancing climate resilience. Understanding hydro-morphodynamic feedback around these natural systems is key for optimizing their design, implementation, and long-term performance. This session highlights interdisciplinary research that advances knowledge of hydrodynamics, sediment transport, bank/floodplain/shoreline morphodynamics and ecological processes in support of successful restoration or NbS design. We invite contributions of basic research informing design or applied studies monitoring performance of natural infrastructure through field observations, laboratory experiments, numerical modeling and remote sensing. We especially encourage studies that explore interactions between physical and biological processes, restoration strategies, and innovative approaches to habitat design. The session seeks to foster dialogue and collaboration among researchers, engineers, and practitioners advancing NbS for resilient and adaptive aquatic ecosystems.
AGU26 will be held in San Francisco, CA from 7-11 December 2026 with abstract Submission Deadline: 5 August 2026 (23:59 EDT)
