Dear Colleagues,
We would like to inform you that the deadline for submitting Extended Abstracts to the Themed Session “Preparing waterfront cities for extreme coastal hazards: Advances in modeling, multi-hazard risk assessment and early warning” at the International Conference on Natural Hazards & Infrastructure, Chania, Greece, 29 June – 2 July 2026, has been extended to March 31, 2026.
The Session is jointly organized with Profs. André R. Barbosa (Oregon State University), Nils Goseberg (Technische Universität Braunschweig & Coastal Research Center), Ioan Nistor (University of Ottawa), and Tiziana Rossetto (Technische Universiteit Delft).
Waterfront cities around the world are facing growing risks from extreme coastal hazards, including storm surges, tsunamis, coastal flooding, and compound multi-hazard events—challenges further intensified by climate change and sea-level rise. Traditional approaches are no longer sufficient to fully understand and manage these complex risks.
This session aims to bring together researchers, engineers, and practitioners working on cutting-edge developments to help cities better anticipate, alert, and respond to coastal hazards.
📌 Topics of interest include:
• Advanced hydraulic and CFD modeling of hazard impacts on infrastructure
• Fluid–structure interaction and structural damage assessment
• Multi-hazard and cascading risk modeling
• AI-driven early warning and impact-based forecasting
• Digital technologies, Earth observation, IoT, and decision-support systems
We invite contributions from the scientific and engineering community working on coastal hazards, resilience, and risk-informed decision-making.
