Dear colleagues,
Please find below an internship offer that may be of interest to your students.
Title:
Comparison of approaches for metamodeling a coastal ocean physical model (hydrodynamics and sediment transport)
Context:
In the context of global change, modeling coastal and biogenic habitats (seagrass beds, coral reefs, mangroves) is crucial for anticipating their evolution and guiding management strategies.
This internship is part of a collaboration between INRAE (MIAT unit, Toulouse) and IFREMER (DYNECO/DHYSED, Brest), focusing on developing metamodels to reduce the computational cost of coupled physical–biological models applied to the Arcachon Bay and Reunion Island lagoon cases study.
Objective:
To compare several metamodeling approaches (Gaussian Process Regression, Random Forests, Boosted Regression Trees, Neural Networks) to reproduce the physical component of a coastal ocean model and provide synthetic environmental data to an ecological model.
Duration and location:
6 months starting from January-March 2026, based at INRAE MIAT (Toulouse), in close collaboration with the IFREMER DYNECO/DHYSED team (Brest).
Supervisors:
Nathalie Peyrard & Ronan Trépos (INRAE MIAT, Toulouse)
Héloïse Muller (IFREMER DYNECO/DHYSED, Brest)
