Dear Coastal List member,
We are happy to announce the course “Introduction to SPH Modelling Using DualSPHysics Code”, which will be held at the Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto (FEUP) in Portugal on 7th-8th February 2023. This course is focused on how to start with DualSPHysics, therefore it is perfect for new potential users of the code in the field of coastal engineering and marine energy .
The first part of the course (morning of 7th February 2023) will be focused on the general description of the SPH methodology, functionalities implemented in the DualSPHysics code and examples of application in coastal engineering and marine energy.
The second part includes a hands-on session where simulations will be executed using our latest version Graphical User Interface that is named DesignSPHysics and includes the binaries of the new DualSPHysics v5.2 (not publicly accessible for now). The practical session will take place during the afternoon of 7th February and during the whole day of 8th February 2023.
The examples during the hands-on session will cover the following cases:
- Practical Session 1: First steps (cases to learn)
Dambreak impacting on vertical wall (external STL)
Propagation of regular waves (mDBC)
Floating box under regular waves (mDBC)
Moored floating box under regular waves (coupling with MoorDyn)
- Practical Session 2: Breakwaters
Simplified breakwater considering free moving blocks (collisions solved using Project Chrono)
Floating moored breakwater and actual bathymetry (loading .xyz file)
- Practical Session 3: WECs
Point absorber under regular waves (PTO simulated with Project Chrono)
Point absorber under focused waves (no PTO) (new focused waves automatic definition)
Oscillating Wave Surge Converter under regular waves (hinge and PTO simulated with Project Chrono)
The course is organised by:
-
Prof. Francisco Taveira Pinto (FEUP, Porto, Portugal)
-
Prof. Paulo Rosa Santos (FEUP, Porto, Portugal)
-
Beatriz Oliveira Queirós (FEUP, Porto, Portugal)
