Dear Coastal List,

J.P. Walsh and I (Erin Peck - newly joining URI) are seeking a graduate student to jointly advise at the Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO) at the University of Rhode Island (URI) starting in the Summer or Fall of 2024. In addition to its long history of excellence in coastal and ocean research and education (check out research areas & facilities; and campus renewal plan), URI GSO is committed to increasing community engagement through science communication, and coastal policy and management (check out outreach activities).

The graduate student would have the option to choose between multiple projects assessing coastal sediment dynamics but would be involved in/lead fieldwork, laboratory analyses, and data processing including GIS. Prospective students should have a background and interest in geological oceanography, sediment dynamics and biogeochemistry, coastal geomorphology, geochronology, and/or climate and land-use change.

Please email me (erin...@uri.edu) and J.P (jpw...@uri.edu) to express interest or with questions.

All the best,
Erin

The University of Rhode Island occupies the traditional stomping ground of the Narragansett Nation and the Niantic People. We honor and respect the enduring and continuing relationship between the Indigenous people and this land by teaching and learning more about their history and present-day communities, and by becoming stewards of the land we, too, inhabit.
