Channel Coastal Observatory Programme Manager

Location: National Oceanography Centre, Southampton

Salary: Band 8 - £37,860 to £41,976

Hours: 37 per week

The Channel Coastal Observatory is an exciting project managed by New Forest District Council (NFDC) in partnership with the University of Southampton and the National Oceanography Centre. With funding granted by central government, NFDC takes the lead in a partnership with other maritime district councils and the Environment Agency to manage and organize a long-term, multi-million pound project of coastal monitoring. The southeast region of the project extends from North Kent to Portland Bill and includes the monitoring, recording, analysis and long-term prediction of coastal processes. We are looking for a scientifically-minded person, with experience in coastal processes, and the ability to manage long-term, multi-element projects. Your role will be to work with the CCO Manager and Survey Team Leader, to ensure the delivery of the South East Regional Coastal Monitoring Programme to specification and budget, though planning and coordination of resources, with input from key stakeholders. Continuing to establish SERCMP and CCO as a strong regional coastal advisory service.

Applicants should have an honours degree in civil engineering, oceanography, environmental science or similar, with at least 5 years relevant experience. Applicants will ideally hold a post-graduate qualification in coastal processes.

Benefits include:

·      26 days annual leave p.a. plus an additional 5 days for 5 years local authority continuous service.

·      Local government pension scheme

·      Employee Assistance Programme (free 24 hour legal, financial and personal advice for employees)
