The Department of Civil Engineering at KU Leuven invites
applications for a postdoctoral position within the Living Coast project.
Project description
The postdoctoral researcher will develop and implement a meteorologically
driven coupled wave-current model incorporating infragravity (IG) wave
processes within an integrated modelling framework for the Belgian coast. The
system will be validated against field measurements. The aim is to advance
understanding of IG wave generation and transformation along the Belgian coast
and to lay the foundation for future integration into a digital twin framework.
Your profile
- You hold a
Doctoral degree in Civil Engineering, Coastal Engineering, Physical
Oceanography, Mathematical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related
discipline.
- You have a
solid background in IG waves, spectral domain wave models (e.g. SWAN) and process-based
hydrodynamic models (e.g. Delft3D, TELEMAC)
- You
possess strong programming skills (e.g., Fortran, C++) and experience with
computational modelling environments (e.g., Delft3D, TELEMAC or similar
platforms).
We offer
- A one-year
postdoctoral position at KU Leuven, Arenberg Campus. An extension for a
maximum of one additional year may be possible, subject to budget
availability.
- Opportunities
for national and international collaboration, including Ghent University,
VLIZ, Flanders Hydraulics, and Delft University of Technology.
How to apply
Submit your application through the KU Leuven job portal, including:
- A cover
letter (1 page) explaining your motivation and fit for the position
- A detailed
CV
- A copy of your
Phd-diploma
- Contact
details of at least one, but preferably two or three references
Deadline for application: 6th March 2026 (late applications accepted
