Dear colleagues,

We are inviting applications for a fully funded 3-year PhD position in sea-level and storm surge science at the Mediterranean Institute of Oceanography (MIO), based in Toulon, France. The position is expected to start in Fall 2026 and will be supervised by Prof. Vincent Rey and Dr. Elodie Laffitte.

Research topic :
Analysis and forecasting of storm surges along the western Mediterranean coasts using long-term observations from the HTM-Net network and investigation of coupled effects in a climate change context.

Requirements :

* Master’s degree or French engineering degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. oceanography, marine sciences, coastal engineering, geophysics, or related fields).
* Strong interest in scientific research and demonstrated self-motivation.
* Solid programming background, with proficiency in at least one programming language (preferably MATLAB) and experience with at least one hydrodynamic model (e.g. TELEMAC, SWAN, etc.).
* Good proficiency in both French and English (spoken and written).
