Dear young researchers,

Mark your calendars for October 16th to 18th, 2024, as you're warmly invited to the (in-person) workshop titled 'Towards a LivingLab of the Magdalena River' (2024). Organized by doctoral students at Kiel University (Germany), this event is made possible by partial funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany (BMBF) and is supported by Universidad del Norte and Universidad de la Costa (Colombia).

This 3-day transdisciplinary workshop, designed for young scientists, marks the initial phase of co-creation aimed at establishing a LivingLab in the Magdalena River's area of influence. The overall goal is to create a foundation for a deeper understanding of processes at the land-water interface of the Magdalena River, the Caribbean's largest tributary.

In order to ensure an impactful gathering, participation will be limited to 20 young/early-career researchers. To maintain inclusivity, pitches should be delivered in English.

While the workshop revolves around a coastal theme, we welcome a diverse range of transdisciplinary topics. All contributions related to:

* Coastal protection measures, nature-based solutions, and coastal management
* Hydrodynamics, morphodynamics, and sediment transport
* Water quality
* Biodiversity and ecology
* Sea level change impacts
* Anthropogenic impacts and human interaction with coastal ecosystems
* Offshore structures
* Fisheries and aquaculture
* Shipping and navigation

What is expected from you?

Please prepare a 5-minute pitch about ideas, previous projects, problematics, or solutions that you want to share and could contribute to the creation of a LivingLab in the Magdalena River and its area of influence.

How to register?

Registrations are open now on our website [2]. Those first 20 people who meet the requirements will receive immediate notification upon selection.

Participants are responsible for their travel and accommodation expenses. Nevertheless, we are pleased to extend an offer to generate personalized invitation letters for those in need, facilitating permit management and potential reimbursement of expenses by their respective affiliated entities. If you require an invitation letter, kindly email us, specifying the intended recipient.

What is the program like?

The workshop will include the following features:

* Talks from international experts.
* A one-day field excursion to Bocas de Ceniza and Atlántico's Department beaches.
* Multiple brainstorming and hands-on sessions.
* One session about funding opportunities for projects.

The schedule for the workshop is constantly being updated and can be found on the website itself.

Please keep an eye on our website for more details.

Sincerely,

Giuliana and Jairo
