Dear students, early career researchers, all,

With this email we announce the opening of the application process to participate on the 2nd AdriaClimPlus Summer School: Advanced School on Climate Change in the Adriatic Sea, to be held in Split, Croatia, between 19 and 24 July 2026.

This edition is the second of the two summer schools organized within the AdriaClimPlus project (https://www.italy-croatia.eu/web/adriaclimplus), the first one was held in Italy in July 2025 (see: https://www.cmcc.it/lectures_conferences/introductive-school-on-climate-changes-in-the-adriatic-sea).

This advanced school targets undergraduate, master and PhD students, and postdoctoral researchers/early-career researchers (up to 4 years after PhD) from Italy and Croatia, and beyond. The aim is to train and exchange the knowledge with participants in conducting joint research activities to advance knowledge of climate-induced changes and shifts that are already occurring, or are projected to occur, in the Adriatic Sea and its coastal zones.

The summer school will emphasize team-based, project-oriented, hackathon-style hands-on work on several research topics related to local- and regional-scale climate change in the Adriatic region. Activities will be based on both long-term observations and climate simulations and projections. The work will be supervised by experienced researchers, with strong practical involvement of skilled young and mid-career scientists from the project consortium and beyond. These mentors will guide the ‘hands-on’ work of the participants, including data manipulation, big-data analysis, hackathon-style coding, and in-depth discussion of the resulting research outputs. Therefore, it is expected that summer school participants are highly skilled in coding in widely used programmes (e.g., Python, Matlab) and have a knowledge in data analyses. The knowledge in coding will be an important criteria when selecting participants to attend the school.

The school will be organized at the Three-Faculties Building on the campus of the University of Split, Ruđera Boškovića 33, Split, Croatia. The University of Split is one of the largest universities in Croatia, known for its strong programs in engineering, medicine, humanities, and natural sciences. Split is a vibrant coastal city, famous for Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its rich Roman and Mediterranean heritage. With its mild climate, beautiful beaches, Mediterranean cuisine, and lively cultural life, Split is an attractive place for visiting, studying, and living.

Accommodation and Services: Accommodation (bed and breakfast) and meals will be provided at the University dormitory Franjo Tuđman, next to the venue. All school meals (lunches and coffee breaks) will be organized at the venue at appropriate times.  The costs of all listed services will be covered by the organizers. Travel costs to and from Split are expected to be covered by the participants.

On Monday, 20 July 2026, the school will include a full-day team-building field trip, with several options depending on participants’ preferences - please tick the preferred one upon your registration to the school:
-  Canyoning along the Cetina River (e.g., https://splitadventure.com/canyoning-on-cetina-river/),
-  Rafting on the Cetina River (e.g., https://www.raftingexperiencecetina.hr/), or
-  Hiking in the surrounding mountains (e.g., Mosor Mountain; options available at https://planinarenje.hr/podrucja/dalmacija).
