Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), a U.S. Department of Energy funded research center, invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position at the Seattle Office. This position is ideally suited for recent Ph.Ds in oceanography, or coastal, ocean, environmental, and civil engineering fields with a background and interest in ocean modeling. The selected candidate(s) will participate in multi-disciplinary research, model development, and diagnostic application activities at regional as well as global scales. The selected candidates will also have an opportunity to participate in research in progress using the Salish Sea Model (SSM) and collaborate with a group of coastal modelers at the Salish Sea Modeling Center, a joint institute between the University of Washington and PNNL. Technical responsibilities will include research and development activities including refining and extending the existing models in a variety of ways, and setting up, testing, and incorporating new modules related to (a) Hydrodynamics and Sediment Transport (b) Biogeochemistry, (c) Toxics Fate and Transport, and (c) Ecosystem Food Web Kinetics. Our primary modeling platforms are based on FVCOM and CE-QUAL-ICM models for the coastal ocean environment on high performance computing (HPC) clusters. Experience with similar leading models such as ADCIRC, SCHISM, ADH, ROMS, and DELFT3D, will be equally beneficial. Familiarity of working with parallelized Fortran codes in a Linux environment, experience with installation of MPI libraries, compiling, debugging codes and, python and MATALB scripting will be a major plus.
