Our Division of Regional Models and geo-hydrological impacts (REMHI), located in Caserta, is looking for a new position of Hydraulic/hydrological modelling expert, responsible for supporting the division team in exploiting consultance service for private company interested on working on asset resilience, develop innovative research activities, participating to research projects and delivering research papers for peer-reviewed international journals, take part to national and international workshop presenting results activities.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) in Civil or Environmental Engineering;
  • PhD (or equivalent experience) in Hydraulic or Environmental Engineering with focus on catchment hydrology, groundwater and/or urban drainage;
  • Solid knowledge of Flood and Flood Hazard modelling in urban and natural catchments;
  • Statistics of extremes and Extreme Value Analysis, Groundwater modelling (one or several);
  • Experience with MATLAB, ArcGIS, R (one or several).
  • Familiarity with the most common rainfall-runoff modelling tools (e.g. HEC-HMS, SWMM or others) is particularly appreciated;
  • Experience in writing research papers for peer-reviewed journals (first author position is particularly appreciated);
  • Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and in team;
  • Fluency in English.

Our Division of Risk Assessment and Adaptation Strategies Division (RAAS) is looking for a new position of Post-doc researcher, responsible for supporting the development of advanced multi-hazard risk assessment methodologies for the assessment of climate change risks on water resources in the Adige river basin.

The job location is CMCC Headquarters in Venice, Italy.

We are looking for a motivated person with the following requirements:

  • PhD in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Hydrology or related fields (with preferred specialization in modeling the impact of climate change on water quality at the river basin scale);
  • Documented experience in the application of numerical models (e.g. SWAT) or complex system analysis tools and methods (e.g. Machine Learning, Bayesian Networks, Random Forest) to design and implement risk and impact assessments on freshwater resources
  • Knowledge of (geo)statistics, geospatial data processing software and tools, including GIS, Python, R;

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Our Division of Ocean Prediction and Application (OPA), located in Lecce, is looking for a new position of researcher with experience as numerical modeler, to support the research and the ocean modeling activities.

This position is for a Numerical Modeller (i.e., Post Doc, or Junior Scientist for research career at CMCC) with good knowledge of physical oceanography, numerical models and programming skills.

The activities will be focused on coastal processes at land-sea interface. The duties will also include processing and interpreting simulation-based and observational data sets.

The primary purpose for this position is to take on a pivotal role in implementing, testing and further developing high resolution ocean models in coastal areas selected within the framework of the supporting project and other collaborations, with a focus on integrating the ocean and the hydrological modelling components. A gained experience with unstructured grid models for the ocean (e.g. SHYFEM, FESOM, FVCOM, SCHISM among the others) or at least with finite difference models (e.g. NEMO, ROMS, ICON among the others) are required.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • PhD in Physical Oceanography, Engineering and the other scientific disciplines dealing with numerical modelling e.g Physics, Mathematics, Environmental Science;
  • experience in numerical modeling development;
  • good knowledge and skills in programming language (i.e Python, Fortran, matlab, R);
  • knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems and script languages (i.e. *nix shell);

    Our Division of Ocean Predictions and Applications (OPA), located in Lecce, is looking for a new position of Junior Scientific Manager, responsible for International Relations.

     

    CMCC operational oceanography team is at the fore-front among international programmes on developing, maintaining and delivering short-term forecasting systems from global, regional to coastal scales (https://www.cmcc.it/data-services-and-products/forecasting-systems). Our team contributes to major ocean initiatives such as the Copernicus Marine Service (http://marine.copernicus.eu) and OceanPredict (https://oceanpredict.org). CMCC acts as Secretariat of UN Ocean Decade Programs such as CoastPredict, which will be the main focus of this position.

     

    The International Relations Manager is expected to work on:

    • supporting OPA Division in the coordination of international projects and initiatives, by managing communication, implementing projects, participating to meetings, proposing new actions;
    • providing coordination between international partners and technical support to ensure the development of international initiatives and connections across the projects developed within Programme frameworks;
    • following the international debates and fora related to marine environment and climate change;
    • organizing scientific and policy meetings;
    • preparing new projects proposals;
    • drafting presentations and documents for project monitoring;
    • preparing and delivering reports, publications, and communications content and materials.

    Specific tasks include immediate involvement in the international activities of:

    • CoastPredict UN Ocean Decade endorsed Programme and in particular the CMCC-led Focus Area Integrated observing and modelling for short term coastal forecasting and early warning and CMCC-led Predict-On-Time project. This will involve working as part of the Secretariat for these initiatives with specific responsibilities including but not limited to:

      Our Division of Climate Simulation and Prediction (CSP), located in Bologna, is looking for a new position of Scientist, to perform development, implementation and assessment of the CMCC global ocean analysis and forecast system at eddy-rich resolution, GOFS16. More specifically, the candidate will contribute to:

      • improve and maintain the global ocean/sea ice forecasting system;
      • monitor and assess the analysis and forecast skills using traditional and advanced methods;
      • disseminate the work in peer-reviewed publications and international conferences.

       

      ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

      • Experience and knowledge in physical oceanography or a related quantitative scientific discipline at graduate or equivalent level, plus experience equivalent to several years working at post-graduate level;
      • skills in scientific computing and parallel programming on supercomputers;
      • strong scientific computing skills (e.g. in Python) with experience of writing and modifying code to produce high-quality analyses;
      • fluency in spoken and written English.

       

      The following experiences are highly desirable:

      • ocean modeling and data assimilation;
