Marine and Coastal Risk Management at JBA Consulting
Our Marine and Coastal Risk Management (MCRM) group is a specialist team of engineers, modellers and scientists working globally. We work within the following technical areas:
· Coastal flood modelling and forecasting
· Metocean risk management (see www.forecoastmarine.com)
· Re/Insurance hazard modelling
· Coastal processes and sediment transport
· Coasts, ports and harbour engineering
· Coastal strategy
· Education and training.
Opportunities for Coastal Flood Risk Modellers
We are growing.
We have exciting new opportunities available within our Coastal Flood Modelling and Forecasting team. Applicants are expected to have at least a BSc or MSc in oceanography, meteorology, engineering, mathematics, physics, physical geography or another relevant science. Applicants must have proven commercial consultancy experience working on coastal modelling projects, and either be chartered or approaching chartership with a relevant organisation (e.g. IMarEST, CIWEM, ICE).
The ideal candidate will have consultancy experience using of a range of coastal models and be ready to take on responsibilities for project delivery and the supervision and mentoring of junior colleagues. You would play a lead role in our Coastal Modelling and Forecasting team, working across a range of projects requiring wave and hydrodynamic modelling. It is essential that applicants have practical experience in numerical modelling, including:
Applicants must have experience and demonstrate a high degree of numeracy and an aptitude for working with computer modelling and data analysis applications.
In working for us, you will develop flood risk models and forecasting system in the UK and internationally using a range of analytical and modelling approaches, including: tide-surge (e.g. ADCIRC, DELFT3D, TELEMAC), wave transformation (e.g. SWAN, MIKE21 SW, STWAVE), wave overtopping (EUROTOP) and flood inundation modelling (TUFLOW, Flood Modeller) and data analysis packages such as MATLAB and Python. New ideas you bring to the team will be fully supported, as the ability to adapt to new ideas and opportunities and pursue diversification is fundamental to the ongoing success of the team.

Role location
The successful candidate will be based in our Skipton office (UK), and you will be expected to travel from time to time.
Non-EU nationals should have a current and valid permit to work in the UK.
