Dear coastal-list members,
the Ludwig-Franzius-Institute (LuFI) at Leibniz University Hannover, Germany, is inviting applications for a Research Assistant / PhD Position in "Fluid-Structure-Soil Interaction at Offshore Wind Structures". Please find below the announcement for the positions.
As part of the Collaborative Research Centre SFB 1463 "Offshore Megastructures," the PhD student will help bridge the gap between coastal engineering, geotechnics, and structural dynamics to understand complex scour development.
The Mission:
The North Sea is transforming into a massive renewable energy power plant, but building "offshore megastructures" requires moving beyond traditional design. You will:
- Investigate Scour Development: Study the complex interplay between coastal engineering, geotechnics, and structural dynamics.
- Conduct Experiments: Plan and perform laboratory experiments at various scales in world-class facilities like the Large Wave Current Flume (GWK+).
- Innovate: Explore how pore water pressure and structural vibrations influence scour.
- Collaboration: Work in an interdisciplinary, international team and present your findings at international conferences.
- Earn Your PhD: The institute fully supports and expects the completion of a doctorate.
What We’re Looking For:
- You hold a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (specializing in coastal or soil mechanics), Oceanography, Marine Geosciences, or a related field.
- You are proficient in Matlab, Python, or similar programming languages.
- You have excellent English communication skills and enjoy working in a team.
- Experience with hydraulic laboratory experiments is a major plus.
Why Join Us?
- Salary: Full-time positions with 100% TV-L E13.
- Flexibility: Options for remote work, flexible hours, and family-friendly support (childcare, etc.).
- Well-being: Access to extensive university sports and health management programs.
How to Apply:
Send your documents (CV, cover letter, certificates) by March 10, 2026.
