Online Graduate Certificate in Coastal Engineering
The University of New Orleans, Louisiana
Students take four (4) graduate-level courses covering (i) Ocean and Coastal Engineering; (ii) Coastal Processes; (iii) Sediment Transport
and Dredging; and (iv) Design of Coastal and Hydraulic Structures. In the process, students will learn to:
- Utilize basic principles of wind and wave generation to understand coastal sediment transport
- Design gravity dams, spillways, drop structures, stilling basins, sector gates and outfall structures
- Design levees and analyze slope stability, settlement, and seepage
- Compute sediment load using principles of sediment transport.
- Estimate cost for different dredging methods in the context of coastal restoration.
- Utilize principles of coastal morphodynamics to predict delta evolution, shoreline change, and marsh edge erosion.
