Dear colleagues,
Applications are open for the Apter Coastal Resilience Practitioner Award, a fully funded place in the August 2026 Coastal Resilience Short Courses in Australia.
The Award is for practitioners working on a real coastal problem: people in local government, state agencies, consultancies, community and Indigenous organisations, and early-career researchers moving into practice. It exists for the person whose only barrier is cost.
WHAT IT COVERS
The courses run in two formats, in person and online, and the Award is open to both.
Australia-based applicants attending in person receive course registration, travel and accommodation.
International practitioners are eligible for a funded online place, covering course registration for the full course.
One award is offered per course.
HOW SELECTION WORKS
On merit, weighing two things: how directly the course bears on the coastal challenge you are actually working on, and the perspective you would bring to the cohort. This is not a prize for a track record. It is a seat for someone who will put it to use.
THE COURSES
Level I, Foundations: 19–21 August 2026, Gold Coast, Queensland
Level II, Advanced Applications: 24–26 August 2026, Byron Bay, New South Wales
Both are practitioner-facing. In-person attendance gives access to the fieldwork, applied exercises and peer discussion. The Coastal Resilience Short Course has run since 2013 and is now delivered through Apter, facilitated by Dr Marcello Sano with contributions from academics and practitioners.
TO APPLY
Applications are made per course:
Apply for Level I
Apply for Level II
The form asks you to choose your attendance mode, in person (Australia-based) or online (Australia and international). Pick the one that fits. The rest of the application is the same either way.
Applications close Friday 17 July 2026.
Apply yourself, nominate a colleague, or pass this to someone who should have the chance. No purchase is required. Anyone already registered may still apply and, if selected, will have their registration converted or refunded. Award terms: apter.au/terms
