Dear Colleagues,
We would like to draw your attention to Session 58: Carbon Dynamics in Coastal Ocean: Benthic-Pelagic Coupling and Interfacial Fluxes at the upcoming XMAS 2027 symposium.
The cycling of carbon between organic and inorganic phases is a fundamental driver of coastal and marine biogeochemistry. While much attention is given to lateral transport, a comprehensive understanding of the coastal carbon cycle inherently relies on deciphering the complex vertical fluxes and phase transformations across critical interfaces.
Our session aims to bring together scientists focused on the mechanistic pathways of carbon cycling, highlighting the integration of:
· Seawater inorganic carbon chemistry
· Marine organic carbon dynamics
· Sediment early diagenesis
· Air-sea CO2 exchange
We particularly welcome contributions that bridge traditional boundaries—from the sediment-water interface to the air-sea interface—with a strong emphasis on benthic-pelagic coupling, fine-scale interfacial observations, and diagenetic/interfacial modeling.
Dedication: This session is dedicated to the memory of Dr. James Cloern and Dr. Frank Millero, two pioneering leaders in aquatic sciences who passed away in 2025. In honor of their lasting contributions to estuarine ecology and marine physical chemistry, we especially encourage submissions that build upon the rigorous mechanistic research themes advanced by these scholars.
Important Deadlines & Links: Please be advised that the abstract submission deadline is Tuesday, June 30, 2026. You can submit your abstract and find more details about the symposium here: https://www.mel-xmas.net/
Reach out directly by email should you have any questions about our session – han...@um.edu.mo
We look forward to seeing your submissions and welcoming you to our session!
Best regards,
Hang Yin
