We’d like to draw your attention to an AGU 2023 Fall Meeting session of potential interest to climate change and coastal science communicators and educators, “Advancing Sea Level Education and Awareness to Support Coastal Communities.” We hope to host a wide range of presentations involving sea level science education and community engagement in this hybrid session. Please find further details below, circulate amongst your colleagues, and kindly consider submitting an abstract by next week, Wednesday, 2 August 2023 23:59 EDT/03:59 +1 GMT.
Warmly,

SY003. Advancing Sea Level Education and Awareness to Support Coastal Communities
Session Description:
Coastal communities face significant challenges resulting from climate-driven changes in sea level. These impacts are global in scope and expected to worsen in the coming years. To plan for these impacts, coastal communities need actionable science, local-scale observations, and reliable projections of future sea-level rise (SLR). Models of community engagement that provide access to critical information and enhance understanding of SLR are vital for increased support for resilience policies in coastal communities.
This session invites submissions describing existing or planned education and outreach efforts that improve awareness and literacy of SLR. We hope to feature a range of target audiences -- from youth to adults – and particularly invite programs partnering with underserved communities and those differentially impacted by SLR. We intend to build a session that is global in scope and emphasizes the broad range of activities needed to support coastal communities preparing for ongoing and future sea-level rise.
