Please pass on this invitation to any doctoral candidates working on Coastal projects (ideally within Europe)
In a nutshell
Dear (Coastal) doctoral students,
Save the dates 18th to 20th of October as you are cordially invited to the 12th CoastDoc (in-person) workshop/conference (2023) hosted by the doctoral students of the Institute of Geosciences at Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel and kindly supported by TUHH.
The aim of the conference/workshop has always been to stray away from the traditional conference structure and openly welcome unfinished findings and successful failures. We strongly encourage a good scientific exchange, which we believe can further empower your doctoral journey. Regardless of which stage or year you currently are in your doctoral process, you are all invited. This stage may provide a great networking opportunity and possibly foster future collaborative efforts.
While centred around a coastal theme, we are looking towards an inclusive array of topics. Any and all work related to:
…… and more are of course invited. Maybe your exciting coastal project isn't even on our radar - yet!
What is expected from you?
Since we are aiming for topical diversity, we would like to ask you to construct your presentations mindful of the audience.
The presentations will be expected to be 10 minutes long followed by 5+ minutes of discussion. In case you need more engagement time; we have planned more extended session breaks exactly for this purpose. To keep it inclusive, the language of talks will be English. To make this into a successful and meaningful event in terms of creating a safe space for proper communication, exchange and networking, we will restrict the number of participants to 25 PhD candidates, it will therefore be first come first served.
The workshop will be supplemented by other key features (as well as some evening events) such as
How to register?
On the logistical front, the workshop/conference fees (50 €) will include registration charges, workshop catering and the dinner (on the 18th of October). Additional costs like accommodation and travel are not included and must be self-sought out. We expect an additional travel cost (train) of ~20 € for the excursion, which should at least be reimbursable by most of you via a travel application from your institution.
What is the program like?
The schedule for the conference is constantly being updated and can be found on the website itself.
Please keep an eye on the website for more details.
Please feel free to pass on this invitation to anyone you may feel would be interested in participating. We are excited to have you here in Kiel. If you have any questions, you can address them to this email, we will help you gladly :-)
Until then
Sincerely,
Your CoastDoc team,
Anna, Clayton, Jairo and Jenny
