the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management of RWTH Aachen University is seeking for new PhD-students in a fundamental research project.
Our Profile
The Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management currently employs 20 scientific and 15 non-scientific staff and has its own experimental lab. The institute is involved in many international and interdisciplinary projects, among others in the course of excellence funding at RWTH Aachen University. The main research areas are groundwater, floods, design and near-natural hydraulic engineering, coastal and estuarine research, sediment transport, river morphodynamics, and hydropower.
Together with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (Chennai, India) the Institute is looking for a PhD student in the framework of a research project in the field of coastal engineering. Responsibilities of the PhD student in the scope of the project encompass experimental as well as numerical (OpenFOAM, DualSPHysics) investigations on advanced constructional tsunami mitigation measures.
Within the scope of the project, a one year stay at IIT Madras is planned.
Your Profile
You have an outstanding university degree (master's degree or comparable) in civil engineering, industrial engineering, or environmental engineering with a specialization in hydraulic engineering or environmental sciences.
Your Duties and Responsibilities
What We Offer
The successful candidate will be employed under a regular employment contract.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term of 1 year.
An extension for initially 2 years is planned. The option to extend the contract for three further years is available.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a part-time position (50 % of the standard weekly hours for full-time employees).
The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree in this position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13.
