Abstract submissions are open for the session “Effects of human modifications of estuaries” at the Coastal and Estuarine Research Federation (CERF) Biennial Conference.  The event will be in-person in Portland, Oregon, 12-16 November 2023.

Session Description:
Significant changes to estuaries can arise from local human activities such as port development, urbanization and flood risk reduction.  These activities are increasing in many regions of the world, despite growing concern about potential negative environmental effects, as they are largely driven by urgent economic pressures and opportunities.   In this session, we seek to highlight research into the physical, sedimentary, ecological and chemical effects of historical or possible future landscape or engineering modifications to estuaries.  The session should be of interest to researchers interested in effects of storm surge barriers, dredging, wetland reclamation, shoreline hardening, hydropower development, as well as those concerned about threats to estuaries and their ecosystems.

Abstract submission closes May 10th.
