The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory - Seattle Office (PNNL-Seattle) is seeking two highly motivated postdoctoral researchers to conduct coastal modeling research in two topic areas: 1) marine energy (wave, tidal stream, ocean current and OTEC) and 2) waterborne plastics fate and transport. The selected candidates are expected to design, configure and conduct model simulations related to one of the forementioned research areas using state of the art coastal ocean models. The candidates are also expected to collaborate with an integrated (hydrological and atmospheric) modeling team in PNNL to investigate the effects of hydrological and atmospheric forcing on estuarine dynamics and transport processes. The above research projects are primarily funded by the Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO), U.S. Department of Energy.
The selected candidate should demonstrate: 1) strong background in estuarine hydrodynamics and transport processes; 2) strong modeling experience with state-of-the-art coastal ocean models, such as FVCOM, SCHISM, ROMS and HYCOM; 3) strong problem-solving and interpersonal communication skills; 4) solid knowledge of high performance computing and programing; 5) ability to publish work in peer-reviewed journals; 6) knowledge of ML/AI is a plus.
