We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow to join a research project on wave overtopping limits and structural
damage for coastal protection systems in Singapore. The successful candidate
will contribute primarily to Work Package 1 (WP1): Empirical Investigation of
Wave Overtopping, which focuses on generating high-quality experimental data to
characterise overtopping processes and their interactions with representative
coastal protection structures.
The project aims to establish local thresholds for average
overtopping discharge, maximum individual overtopping volume, flow depth, and
flow velocity, and to develop EurOtop-compatible local modifiers and practical
guidance for Singapore-relevant coastal conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct physical model experiments in laboratory flumes
- Develop and test scaled models of representative coastal
protection typologies, including revetments, seawalls, and related crest
configurations
- Measure and analyse key overtopping parameters, including
discharge, overtopping volume, flow depth, velocity, and related hydraulic
responses
- Contribute to benchmarking and localisation of overtopping
predictions in line with EurOtop-compatible formulations
- Contribute to technical reports, journal publications,
stakeholder presentations, and project documentation
Requirements
- PhD in Coastal, Ocean, Civil, Environmental, or related
Engineering
- Strong background in coastal hydrodynamics, hydraulic
experiments, wave-structure interaction, or physical modelling
- Experience with wave flume testing and/or hydraulic
laboratory experimentation
- Experience with hydraulic instrumentation or experimental
measurements such as wave, velocity, or video-based methods is highly desirable
- Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills
- Strong publication record or demonstrated research potential
Preferred Qualifications- Familiarity with wave overtopping, coastal protection structures, or laboratory studies of coastal processes
- Knowledge of EurOtop or related overtopping design frameworks
