Dear Research Colleagues,

My name is William Olson, and I am a Research Engineer with SRI International in Menlo Park, California. SRI is in the process of downsizing some of its facilities. We have a wave tank that we no longer need, and I am trying to find a new home for it. The tank is 66’ long, 4’ wide, and 7’ tall, with a typical water depth of 3’ and a capacity of 6500 gallons. It was built in the late 1990s and consists of a steel frame with glass walls and a glass floor. It is still in great condition, though it has been empty of water for the last 10 years or so. The tank has a pool filter system and a shallow water piston wave generator (by Edinburgh Design, Scotland) with a wave frequency of 0.1 to 1.2 Hz and an amplitude of up to 50 cm peak to trough.

We are willing to donate the wave tank to your research organization if you are willing to pay for the removal (we can help with some of the removal and tear-down cost as well ). You would be responsible for shipping costs. Below is a poster from past work SRI has performed using the wave tank; I can provide photographs and more details on it to you if you are interested. If you know someone in the research community who might be interested, please feel free to pass on this e-mail.

I would like to hear from you soon if you are interested, because I will need to remove the wave tank from its current location by around this time next year. If no one is interested, I will need to dispose of it or recycle it somehow. I don’t like the idea of scrapping it, so that’s why I’m reaching out to the research community.

Sincerely,

William Olson, Research Engineer

SRI International
