Hello everyone,

The Northern Gulf Institute (NGI) is seeking a postdoctoral research scientist with expertise in ocean modeling. The primary role of the postdoc is to develop a 4D-var data assimilation framework within a high-resolution regional ocean model. This work aims to enhance the representation of ocean biogeochemical processes. The successful candidate will be based in Miami, Florida, integrating an interdisciplinary group of researchers from NGI and NOAA’s Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory.

Key responsibilities include:
* Configuration of a 4D-var framework: Setting up and initially configuring the 4D-var data assimilation framework, integrating it with an existing regional ocean-biogeochemical model.
* Conducting numerical model experiments for calibration: Adjusting parameters and settings within the 4D-var system to optimize its performance in assimilating observational data and improving predictive capabilities for biogeochemical variables.
* Full implementation and validation of the 4D-var framework: Rigorously testing and validating the system's performance using independent datasets and established metrics to accurately constrain the model's biogeochemical state, reduce uncertainties, and provide more realistic simulations of ocean processes.
* Presenting significant research findings at scientific conferences.
* Publishing relevant research results in peer-reviewed journals.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in oceanography or a related field, along with experience in ocean modeling.
Preferred qualifications include:
* Expertise in data assimilation
* Expertise in ocean-biogeochemical research
* Experience working with the Regional Ocean Model System (ROMS) or the Modular Ocean Model version 6 (MOM6)
* Knowledge in data science programming

This position is renewable based on performance and funding availability. You can find more details and apply through the following link:
