Dear colleagues,
Apologies for Cross-posting.
With the deadline for abstract submission approaching fast (August
2), we would like to remind you about our session on the
interactions of biological and physico-chemical processes in
coastal ecosystems at this year's AGU fall meeting to be held in
San Francisco (CA, USA) from 11 to 15 December.
OS006: Biophysical Processes in Shallow Coastal Seas and
Estuaries
Shallow coastal seas and estuaries are dynamic systems which
experience interacting processes driven by biology, sediment
transport and hydrodynamics. The impacts of these biophysical
processes on the geomorphology, ecology and biogeochemistry are
examined widely using diverse approaches. To gain insight from
various research fields and synthesize recent progress, we invite
studies that focus on these environments in terms of their
physical, biological or chemical processes, or the interplay
between them. From subtidal (e.g., seagrass meadows, kelp forests,
coral reefs) to intertidal ecosystems (e.g., saltmarshes, mangrove
forests), we want to use this session to bring together diverse
methodologies (e.g., numerical modeling, remote sensing, field
observations, laboratory experiments) that advance our
understanding of the complex processes occurring within shallow
coastal and estuarine regions. We also strongly welcome studies
investigating the impacts of climate change and other
human-induced environmental changes on shallow coastal seas and
estuaries.
Our invited speakers are:
Zoe Hughes
(Boston University)
with expertise on salt marsh ecogeomorphology, including
interactions among vegetation, crabs and geomorphology. Dante
Horemans (Virginia Institute of Marine Science) who focuses
on mathematical models of estuarine biogeochemical and physical
dynamics to forecast harmful algal blooms.
We hope you consider submitting an abstract and attending the
conference. Abstracts deadline is Wednesday, 2 August 2023.
