Greetings,

Do you want experience organizing an academic symposium? Are you interested in emerging technologies showing promise for drug development and disease modeling? We are seeking volunteers to join the organizing committee for the 5th annual Organ-on-a-Chip Symposium at UCSD!

This is a free symposium open to UCSD and the surrounding research community. Speakers from academia and industry are invited to share their research and development of organ-on-a-chip technologies. Participants can connect with innovative researchers and learn about diverse career paths, including roles in regulatory affairs and government sectors. We are seeking volunteers to continue providing this unique opportunity to UCSD. More information about past symposia can be found here: https://sites.google.com/view/organ-on-chip/

Please submit responses by May 15, 2024 with this Google Form.

Available Roles (# volunteers needed):

Biotech Liaison (1-2): Recruit sponsors for biotech exhibition. Coordinate communication, payment receipt, and event day sponsor logistics.

Venue Coordinator (3): Research and be a point of contact for the venue. Order and arrange pickup/delivery of lunch, refreshments. Arrange seating, tabling, and poster placement at the venue. Ensure punctual setup and breakdown on the day of the event. (First dibs on leftovers!)

Budget Coordinator (1-2): Assemble symposium budget and identify new grant opportunities. Prepare grant applications to recurring and new funding sources.

Outreach and Engagement Coordinator (3): Communicate event information to UCSD students, faculty, and staff. This includes posting flyers and sending email invitations to various departments. Additionally, recruit graduate students and postdocs for the lunchtime poster session.

Digital Media Manager (1-2): Maintain the event website and update with information as it becomes available. Manage social media posts for event promotion, including day-of updates.

Welcome Coordinator (2): Welcome attendees while managing sign-in sheets and ensure food is only provided to symposium guests. Facilitate the timely arrival of speakers at the venue.

The next symposium will tentatively occur in early October 2024. We are excited to have you on our team.
