Mentorship Opportunity - Colors of the Brain

Hello,

We are Colors of the Brain, a 501(c)(3) organization promoting neuroscience education and research experiences to UC San Diego undergraduates. We are graduate students and postdocs who share a passion for improving research career outcomes for those who may not have had prior professional development support in the undergraduate journey.

We want to extend an open invitation to the graduate students and postdocs in the department to join our organization for the 25-26 academic year!

This Monday (9/29) starting at 6 pm in Mesa Nueva A192B Large Conference Room (right next to the pool), we will be holding our first general body meeting in which we discuss lessons learned from the prior year and plan our future event and mentorship programming.

Since 2016, we’ve held professional development events at UC San Diego catered to undergraduate success in applying to PhD programs broadly within the brain sciences, including biology, psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, bioengineering, etc. Since 2020, we’ve held the Colors of the Brain – Kavli Institute for Brain and Mind (CoB-KIBM) Scholars program, a 10-week paid summer research program that places UCSD undergraduates with little to no prior research experience in laboratories across UCSD and the Salk Institute. We provide scholars with a community of postgraduate mentors who may share similar lived experiences with undergraduates that need additional guidance navigating academic research (for example, first-generation college students).

If you are interested in being a mentor for an undergraduate scholar this Summer 2026, or if you’d like to help organize and support professional development events this academic year, or if you want to join a community of trainees invested in supporting future neuroscience researchers, come through!
