You're Invited
Join us Thursday, Aug. 7, for Clinical Impact: Bringing Novel Clinical Trials in Stem Cell and Gene Therapy — and Training — to the Next Generation of Clinician-Scientists. It's the third in a series of programs organized
by the Sanford
Stem Cell Institute as we showcase our
six
centers to spur collaboration and communication.
This month we'll focus on the Sanford
Stem Cell Clinical Center, which houses
the UC San Diego Sanford Stem Cell Clinical Center California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) Alpha Clinic and STrategic Advisory Research Team (START). The Alpha Clinic provides inpatient and outpatient cell, gene therapy, stem cell and other regenerative
medicine clinical trials supported by the Division of Regenerative Medicine at the UC San Diego School of Medicine. The START program supports researchers through pre-clinical phases of first-in-human studies.
You're welcome to attend online or in person; RSVP isn't required. If you join us at the UC San Diego campus, stay after the presentation and
enjoy lunch with us!

About the Speakers
Catriona Jamieson,
MD, PhD, is a board-certified hematologist with broad clinical expertise in caring for patients with hematologic malignancies. Her research explores the fundamental question of how space alters cancer progression. Her ultimate mission: to discover
life-saving therapies for cancer that tackle the root cause of the disease, and to advance therapeutics that enhance stem-cell regeneration.
Jamieson serves as a professor of medicine at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine and the chief of its Division of Regenerative Medicine; director of the university’s Sanford Stem Cell Institute; and co-leader of its Hematologic Malignancies
Program. She is also the university’s Sanford Stem Cell Institute chancellor's endowed chair in regenerative medicine.
Sheldon
Morris, MD, MPH, director of the Sanford Stem Cell Institute, completed medical school at the University of British Columbia and a master of public health at the Harvard School of Public Health, where he majored
in quantitative methods. Morris trained in preventive medicine at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF)/Berkeley and completed a fellowship at UCSF/the California Department of Public Health. His expertise is in the design and management of clinical
trials.
Sandip
Patel, MD, FASCO, is a professor at UC San Diego School of Medicine and a medical oncologist focusing on early-phase clinical trials of solid tumor cellular immunotherapy and thoracic oncology. He is the deputy
director of the Sanford Stem Cell Clinical Center. Patel is also the leader for the Experimental Therapeutics (Phase 1) Program and co-leader of the Solid Tumor Therapeutics Program at the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center. He's also the medical director of
Clinical Research Informatics at UC San Diego.
