Hello all,

Below is a Post-doc T32 opportunity at FIU. This information is provided by Dr. Raul Gonzalez, FIU PI:

Dear colleagues:

The FIU NIDA T32 Training Program seeks to recruit three post-docs for the 2022-2023 academic year for training in research that focuses on the overlap between child and adolescent mental health and substance use and risk thereof, across a variety of methods and fields, including prevention, treatment, neurobiology, neuropsychology, and mental health co-morbidity loosely organized across three research areas pertaining to Substance Use Disorders-Co-Occurring Disorders, including: (1) developmental psychopathology and child/adolescent risk factors for substance use; (2) prevention and interventions for adolescent substance use disorders (e.g., behavioral treatment of elementary aged children with externalizing problems, teens with risk for development of SUD, including internalizing issues) and (3) dissemination, implementation, and health services practice.  The program is housed in the Center for Children and Families, which is a Preeminent Program at FIU.

Postdocs will be recruited for two-year positions and will receive funding for stipends, research funds, and training from the T32 program during these time periods. The postdoc stipend is up to $60,000 contingent on qualifications. Please note that all trainees must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident at the time of appointment. Trainees receive additional funds for research projects ($10,000) and are eligible for and routinely additionally receive research seed funds ($5000) from the CCF. Training for postdocs involves (1) being mentored by one of our primary mentors (mainly from our clinical child and neuroscience training doctoral programs, (2) attending for two years a series of talks by our core faculty (90 minutes once every other week) on issues in substance use and childhood/adolescent risk and intervention, including summers), (3) weekly meetings with their faculty mentor, (3) a monthly speaker seminar (the CCF Speaker Series), a once-per-year Research Day even and attendance at invited lectures.  The CCF is a Preeminent Center at FIU and consists of 35 faculty from the Colleges of Arts and Sciences and Public Health.  All CCF members have funding from an NIH institute (currently more than 80M in total funding), and the CCF faculty grants have enabled Psychology research expenditures at FIU to rank 3rd in the U.S. (see 2022 HERD Rankings).

T32 training faculty are listed at http://ccf.fiu.edu/nida-t32-program/.  All T32 training faculty hold federal grants—mostly from NIH--and trainees receive intensive training in writing NIH grants as part of their T32 experience.  The CCF hosts one of the largest sites affiliated with the landmark Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study, to which all T32 trainees may have access.

Should you have Post-Doctoral candidates to recommend (or are a postdoctoral candidate), please email the T32 Director, William E. Pelham, at wpe...@fiu.edu and provide a copy of the candidate’s CV, a statement from the candidate of their interest in the training, and letters of support/reference. As you know, membership in a T32 program is a coveted opportunity for graduate students and postdocs who want an academic career path. We encourage you to have your most talented trainees and potential trainees consider this opportunity.

Thank you!
