CREATIVE INTERVENTIONS: A COLLOQUIUM IN ARTS, DESIGN, AND MEDIA.
Creative Technologies is thrilled to announce the Spring 2025 guests for Creative Interventions: A Colloquium in Arts, Design, and Media.
Creative Interventions is a community colloquium in contemporary creativity and creative practices.
Our speaker series raises questions of import to contemporary creative workers in media and technology. How do creative workers address their most challenging problems? How does creative labor intersect with other forms of labor to nurture the world views and cultural practices of our democracy?
Creative Interventions addresses the interconnected work of artists, designers, activists, and knowledge workers—and the intrinsic and transformative capacity of that work to cultivate a just society.
We invite members of the UCSC community to attend these talks. All talks take place on Tuesdays, via Zoom. RSVP links are below, as well as on the CT website.

UCLA ARCHITECTURE AND URBAN DESIGN SUMMER PROGRAM IN ARCHITECTURE/DESIGN
JumpStart
Summer 2025: June 23 – July 18, in-person
JumpStart is a 3.5-week summer studio open to students from all backgrounds who are contemplating careers and ideas in architecture, design, and related fields.
This year’s program will be delivered in person and carries six quarters of University of California credit. To participate in JumpStart, students must hold a high school diploma (or equivalent).
The program is led by Julia Koerner, a distinguished architect who also designs 3D printed fashion and costumes for Ruth Carter and Black Panther, for Paris Fashion Week and haute couture houses, and for her own line, JK3D.
Over the course of the program, students will learn to:
Produce architectural representation via both orthographic and parallel projections
Build analog models using manual and digital fabrication tools
Develop digital models of existing and original designs
Learn to use 2-D and 3-D modeling and drawing software: Rhinoceros and Adobe Illustrator (individuals with prior modeling experience will be challenged to expand and advance their skill set through technical workshops)
Communicate architectural ideas effectively across formats
At least one day will be devoted to a field trip/site visits in Los Angeles.
"As someone with zero academic or professional architecture experience, this program was the perfect entry point. I learned so much… and got to design a whole house in less than four weeks."
(Ivy Moore, JumpStart 2024)
