Keynote address by Consuelo Alba, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Watsonville Film Festival.
Presentation by UCSC Career Success: develop your resume, cover letter, portfolio and more!

DAY 2 - Panel Presentations with Industry Professionals
Wednesday, April 9, 12-4:30 pm
Hybrid event: In-Person at DARC 108 & online via Zoom Webinar
Arrive by 12:00 for LUNCH and intro; panel sessions begin at 12:25 pm.
Bring your laptop and come together with other students to hear from presenters and ask your questions. Arts Division Student Success staff and some discussion moderators will be in person.

Careers in Performance Spaces
Careers in Creative Technologies
Events on both days will be in person in DARC 108 (bottom floor of the Digital Arts Research Center). Though both days will also be streamed via Zoom for students who cannot come to campus, we recommend that you come in person for the full experience, including the opportunity on Day 1 to meet our speakers and ask specific questions in person, and the opportunity to connect with each other in person on both days!

ARTS PROFESSIONAL PATHWAYS INTERNSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
The Arts Professional Pathways Internship Scholarship helps make internships more accessible by supporting living, moving, and travel expenses. Open to undergraduate and graduate Arts students in good academic standing, this needs-based scholarship offers up to $1000 per month during an accepted internship. Priority is given to students identified as high need by UCSC Financial Aid, those needing to relocate, or those who must leave current employment to accept the internship.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: May 9, 2025.

2nd Annual Slug 48 Film Competition
April 25-27 + Screening + Awards Night on April 30
This 48-hour film competition is open to ALL UCSC students!
OVERVIEW:
Students must sign up through a Google Form: https://slug48.ucsc.edu
Instructions and guidelines will be given on Friday April 25 at 5 pm including details such as a theme, a prop, a line of dialogue that must be in the film to ensure nothing was shot ahead of time.
You will then have until Sunday, April 27 at 5 pm to submit your finished film.
Finished films should be 4 min or less in running time.
ACTORS: the weekend will be a quick and fun way to get some on-screen acting experience that could be used for your reel, etc.!
On April 30, there will be a Screening + Awards Night with guest judges!

Learning Support Services is UCSC's undergraduate tutoring center serving over 3000 students per quarter and employing 150 undergraduate students as successful, certified tutors each year!
Tutoring is Available for 100+ Classes!

Help with any writing work (assignment or personal) they encounter.
Students will have access to 30-minute meetings with a writing tutor who is trained to help students become better writers, not edit.
Help with math questions in the following subjects, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and vector calculus. (The tutors are math majors and may have the capacity to tutor higher levels of math)
Students are encouraged to work with other students who may be in the same class or can work individually. The tutor roams the room checking in on students individually and providing support.
45-minute workshops that teach tools to be successful at UCSC. Workshop topics are science-backed best practices for effective, durable learning!
Topics include: Study Skills, Goal Setting, Productive Struggle, Note-Taking, Understanding your Syllabus, Time Management
The coaching program connects interested students with peer coaches. In those private, one-on-one meetings, students can reflect on their experience at UCSC, learn new study strategies, and get connected to resources and opportunities.

Author & Choreographer Phil Chan
PPD students are invited to an exclusive student lunch meet & greet with Phil Chan—co-founder of Final Bow for Yellowface and a leading advocate for inclusive storytelling in the arts.
This is a unique opportunity to engage with Phil in an informal setting, learn more about his work to eradicate Yellowface from ballet and opera, and discuss ways to build a more inclusive future in the performing arts.
The first 25 students to arrive will receive a signed copy of Phil Chan’s book, Final Bow for Yellowface: Dancing Between Intention and Impact (2020).

UCSC Theater Arts Undergraduate Advising
Dr. Russell Rodriguez is professor in the UCSC Music Department. He founded the UCSC Mariachi band in 2018 and he is the Faculty Advisor of Grupo Folklorico Los Mejicas, UCSC’s famous fabled Mexican folkloric dance group that will be performing on Friday, May 30 in the UCSC Theater Arts Mainstage. The American Folklore Society, in bestowing their Américo Paredes Prize on Dr. Rodriguez in 2023, described Dr. Rodriguez as an innovative scholar, a highly skilled musician and exceptional mentor.
Michael Flora is Executive Director of Indexical, a radically experimental music organization based in Santa Cruz. Michael holds a MFA in Electronic Integrated Arts from Alfred University, and is an active computer musician, educator, and multidisciplinary artist. In his many roles with Indexical, Michael has served as Technical Manager for over a hundred performances and is also the administrative director and primary artistic decision-maker for the organization.
Jill MacLean has been the Director of the Young Conservatory at ACT - the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, since 2017 where she works to make the experience of theater accessible to all young people in the Bay Area. Before taking on her current role at ACT, Jill taught acting and musical theater there for several years and has dedicated more than 25 years to theater and education in both New York and the Bay Area.
