The positions listed below are on-site positions based in McHenry Library in the David Kirk Digital Scholarship Commons. Please see a brief description below for each position and apply through Handshake. All positions are open for applications until Sunday, 9/7 at midnight unless otherwise noted and plan to conduct interviews between 9/9–9/12. All interviews will be remote via Zoom.

Desk Assistant, Digital Scholarship Commons (Work-Study & Non-Work-Study)

Desk Assistants provide support for daily operations and foster a welcoming environment for our users.  In this role, you'll manage the checkout of our circulating equipment collection including digital cameras, video cameras, audio recorders, and Virtual Reality (VR) equipment. You will also support use of the group study rooms on the Ground Floor of McHenry Library, and use of the Audio Production Studio. DSC Desk Assistants also provide support for digital scholarship software, such as StoryMaps and ArcGIS, available on workstations in the DSC Lab. Audio/Video Specialist, Digital Scholarship Commons (Work-Study & Non-Work-Study)

In this role, you'll provide assignment support and lead our student work on special digital projects (e.g. podcasts, videos, web design, VizWall content). You'll also work alongside our Desk Assistants to provide access and support for our users. This position requires prior experience with Audio or video storytelling methods, including technical ability.

Desk Assistants provide support for daily operations and foster a welcoming environment for our users. In this role, you'll support the use of advanced equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and paper cutting machines (Cricut) by working our public desk and providing access to equipment and support of our users. This role does not require any previous making experience. All new workers go through a 10-week training program in the Fall to learn our equipment and our support philosophies.
 

Design Specialist, Digital Scholarship Innovation Studio (Work-Study & Non-Work-Study)

This position requires prior experience with 3D and Vector design, but does not require prior experience with our DSI equipment.

Both of our leads engage with training and equipment maintenance, with the Equipment Lead managing the maintenance schedule and materials tracking.
