If you are a prospective graduate student from the United States considering Canada for graduate school in 2025 or beyond – this could be a great time to apply.
From April 14-18, select graduate programs at University of British Columbia, Vancouver will re-open applications for US citizens to be considered for September 2025 or January 2026 entry - they are ready to provide quick admissions decisions for these applicants.
Participating programs include the two-year Master of Arts in Theatre (complete program requirements here). Other participating programs are listed here.
The MA in Theatre is a theoretical based program, so for most students it would act as a stepping stone, not a terminal degree, similar to the UCSC Theater Arts M.A. degree. The university offers practical based programs to enhance skills as an artist: MFA in Directing or the MFA in Design & Production; however, these may not be accepting applications at this time.

With recent changes in the US regarding funding and graduate program options, we wish to provide an opportunity to any US students who may have seen their plans negatively affected to still be able to pursue a graduate program starting in September 2025. Sixty of UBC's graduate programs are reopening applications exclusively for US applicants during US Applicant Week (April 14-18).
Given that we receive many applications from University of California, Santa Cruz each year— in fact, your institution is among those from which we receive the most applications—I wanted to ensure your students are aware of this opportunity.
