Calling All Musicians and Singers!

The UCSC African American Theater Arts Troupe of the
Cultural Arts & Diversity Resource Center and
Department of Performance, Play & Design
are planning to stage the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical
Dreamgirls
this winter quarter!

Any UCSC student interested in auditioning for the show is strongly encouraged to attend this two-part workshop next month:

Two-Part Vocal Workshop:

Saturday, November 1
and
Sunday, November 2
  • Both days:
    • 12:00 to 2:30 pm
    • Second Stage (H building), UCSC Theater Arts Center (Google map).
    • Bring 32 bars of sheet music and your best effort - we'll work on it together!
    • NOTE: The first day of the workshop (11/1) will be required to attend the second day of the workshop (11/2).
    • If you are interested in being part of AATAT's Dreamgirls this upcoming Winter 2026 quarter, we highly suggest that you be present at these vocal workshops with sheet music for your practiced audition piece in hand.
Jazz Ensemble opportunity!
  • We are also looking for student musicians to form a live jazz ensemble band to play the soundtrack of Dreamgirls! If you or anyone you know has band experience / knows how to play an instrument, please fill out the:
    • Musician interest Google form, here
    • Deadline to fill out the interest form: Monday, November 3rd by 5 pm
    • Formation of this jazz band is dependent solely on whether we receive enough interest, so please send the form around to all musicians you know who may be interested!
    • More information about the band and AATAT can be found in the Google Form.
Both the vocal workshop and jazz band are open to anyone who is interested in joining our Dreamgirls team, so feel free to spread the word! We look forward to hearing your talents and growing our diverse community of artists.

Loosely based on the story of Diana Ross and the Supremes and other Motown groups, Dreamgirls is a sweeping and inspirational journey through 20th century American pop music, Dreamgirls chronicles one Motown group's rise from obscurity to superstardom.
