R.A.W. (‘Cause I’m a Woman) by Diana Son

Native American/American Indian play
A short play in which Stanford University staff ask a Native American student if using an “Indian” as their mascot is acceptable. The play highlights Native American perspectives, cultural identity, and the tension between “honoring” and stereotyping Indigenous people.
1 Act Latinx “Latina” play
The story follows Sarita, a young actress dealing with cultural identity issues, based on the playwright's own experiences. Set in Los Angeles, the play focuses on the working poor, the treatment of immigrants, and women's rights.
Something Stupid - a 1 Act African American play by Alyssa (a UCSC student)
Something Stupid takes place in a jazz lounge where Zariyah, an accountant who secretly dreams of performing, meets Samir, a man who dreams of preserving the music and spirit of the lounge. As they talk throughout the night, their playful flirting turns into deep conversations about fear, identity, and chasing dreams. Samir encourages Zariyah to stop living for others and take risks for herself. By the end, she decides to stay, pursue what she truly wants, and begin a relationship with him.
