Dear Music Community,

The Santa Cruz Baroque Festival is accepting applications to its 2nd Vocal Music Competition, which will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 423 Melrose Ave. Santa Cruz, with judging slots available from 3:00 to late afternoon.

 and submit the entry fee of $25 by Saturday, February 21st, 2026. You will then receive confirmation of your appointment by email.

Benefits: 

● Monetary prizes – $500 to 1st, $300 to 2nd, and $200 to 3rd place 

 A special $100 German-language song award from  the Festival’s Artistic Director, Jörg Reddin

● Written feedback from experienced judges. 

● 1st place winner will have a performance opportunity at a future Santa Cruz Baroque Festival Concert

● Award ceremony for winners held at the March 7th Festival concert. Save the date! (complimentary tickets offered)

 

Criteria / Eligibility: 

● All participants must be residents of Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, San Benito, or Monterey counties.

● Must be between 14 and 26 years old on the competition date. 

● Two pieces to be performed in original languages: 1. One Baroque song or aria from the Baroque cantata.  2. One song in Romantic style.

● Baroque song or aria must be sung in the original key. Memorization is encouraged but not required. 

● Time limit: 15 minutes. 

● Participants must provide their own piano accompanist.


  • Vocal Master Class: Scheduled for February 22 from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 423 Melrose Ave, Santa Cruz.
    • Participation: Costs $50. Interested participants should send their intent to Vlada Volkova-Moran at vlad...@sbcglobal.net by February 15th.
    • Observation: The class is open to the public to observe for free.
