Happy almost fall! I hope you are enjoying the sunshine and gearing up for a fantastic fall quarter. The Ken Norris Center for Natural History is offering two natural history classes this fall that you gotta check out!
Here is a link to the class schedule where you can enroll. All classes are open to any undergraduate student, regardless of program affiliation.
ENVS 19 -01 Introduction to Coastal Natural History, meets Tuesdays 1-5pm in NS2 233. This course will provide an introduction into the natural history of coastal ecosystems, marine biology, and oceanography. Six of the class meetings will be field trips to visit local sites such as Año Nuevo and Younger Lagoon. The remainder of the classes will be located on campus in the Norris Center, where we will have lectures and laboratory activities. Lab activities will include fish dissections, marine algae identification and preservation, and microscope activities!
ENVS 19- 02 & 03 Natural History of UCSC, Section 02 meets Wednesday mornings 8:30-11:30, Section 03 meets Wednesday afternoons 1:30-4:30 in NS2 233. This course will address different aspects of the natural history (geology, ecology, plants, animals, human history) of the UCSC campus and Santa Cruz region. By practicing skills of observation and awareness, this course aims to further develop your ability to learn about the natural history of any place as well as to further develop your appreciation and respect for the natural world. This class includes a field trip (either a day trip or overnight camping trip) to a local natural area in the Santa Cruz area.
These courses are the perfect way to connect with Santa Cruz’s landscapes, wildlife, and coastal ecosystems while building natural history skills you’ll carry anywhere. Send this email along to your buddies who might be interested. Don’t miss your chance to explore nature (and get credit for it!!) this fall!
