****APPLICATIONS ARE DUE THIS WEEK - FEB. 29TH****

Dear Students,

The Center to Advance Mentored, Inquiry-based Opportunities (CAMINO) is pleased to announce open applications for our Summer 2024 Research Internship program. CAMINO is an inclusive community that aims to propel excellence by diverse undergraduates in ecology and conservation. We encourage any UCSC undergrads interested in pursuing study or a career in the fields of ecology, evolution, or conservation to apply for a paid 8-10 week summer research internship.

CAMINO has partnered with research groups at UCSC, to offer incredible opportunities to work side by side with graduate and faculty mentors. These summer internships provide you with the chance to apply concepts and theories from EEB coursework, deepen your understanding of the research arc, and become competitive for graduate school and related career opportunities.

We strongly encourage students from groups underrepresented in the field of EEB to apply including transfer students, first-generation college students, and veterans.

All CAMINO interns in the 2024 Summer program will receive:

  • $5,500 stipend to support living expenses during your 8-10 week internship (dates vary by project, see full descriptions for specifics)

  • Essential field and lab equipment provided by CAMINO and/or your host lab

  • Access to one-on-one mentoring over the summer with a PhD, Postdoc, or faculty mentor across a dozen available projects

  • Immersion in a structured research experience with opportunities to develop your work into professional outputs (research symposiums, conferences, senior thesis)

  • Spring Quarter '24 professional workshops with CAMINO staff (required).

Basic eligibility:

  • To qualify as a CAMINO 2024 Summer intern, you must be enrolled as a UCSC undergraduate in Spring 2024 and Fall 2024 - sorry graduating seniors.

  • No previous research or field experience is required to apply- simply bring a strong interest in pursuing studies or a career in this field and a strong willingness to learn!

  • Internships are a full time commitment, you must be able to work ~40/week.

  • To receive the CAMINO stipend, you must not be receiving funding for your CAMINO internship from other sources. Please let us know if you are so that we may explore possible options for your participation.
