Professor Yueqin Huang is a global expert in mental health and currently the director of the Division of Social Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine in the Institute of Mental Health Peking University. Trained in psychiatry, she has been involved in several projects regarding the World Mental Health Survey and served as a member of the Global Health Commission of the Lancet for promoting international mental health.

The prevalence and burden of psychopathology differs globally based on cultural and environmental factors, and yet much of this research has been limited to the United States. The China Mental Health Survey (CMHS) is the first nationwide epidemiological study of disease burden of mental disorders and utilization of health services in China. In this talk, Dr. Huang will address the methodology behind designing this survey for global comparison and the findings regarding the prevalence of mental health disorders and service utilization in China. Implications for how health care systems can promote mental health in China will be discussed.
