Dear Advisors and Counselors,

The UCSC Earth Futures Institute is pleased to announce the 2026-2027 term of our Frontier Fellows research program. This program supports in-depth interdisciplinary research on topics relevant to Earth's future. Applications are due March 8th, 2026. We would appreciate your help advertising this program and encouraging candidates to apply.

Students will receive a $6000 stipend to work over this coming summer.  They will start

work in Spring quarter 2026 and complete their projects with deliverables in Spring

Quarter 2027. Faculty can receive up to $2000 to support research expenses, including an

optional faculty stipend. Funding is available for six Fellows this year.

The EFI Frontier Fellowships are a unique opportunity for undergrads at UCSC to design their own research projects in collaboration with UCSC faculty.  And obtain summer support.

It will be much appreciated if you would share this information about the Frontier Fellowships

program with faculty in your division. The distributable flyer attached to this email provides all information needed to get started preparing an application.

The deadline for applications is March 8, 2026.

On behalf of Sandra Faber, Director, Earth Futures Institute, Professor Emerita, Astronomy & Astrophysics, we thank you in advance for your help,

Karoli Clever
