The Educational Opportunity Programs (EOP) is proud to celebrate First-Gen Week from November 3rd – November 7th!

 

We are inviting all students to join us in honoring the resilience, accomplishments, and rich experiences of First-Generation students through a week filled with engaging events across campus. First-Gen Week Events:

 

First-Gen Week: Owning our Stories: First-Gen Identity & Imposter Syndrome
Date & Time:
 Nov 3, 2025, 2:00–3:00pm
Location: C9 & JRL Namaste Lounge
A welcoming event designed to support First-Gen students as they begin their journey at UC Santa Cruz. Connect with fellow students, gain tools to overcome self-doubt, and learn how to thrive academically and personally in your new campus community.

 

First-Gen Week: Film Screening & Dialogue – The Unafraid

Date & Time: Nov 4, 2025, 4:00–6:00pm

Location: Cervantes & Velasquez Conference Room

This film screening will feature "The Unafraid", a documentary that follows the personal lives of three immigrant students in Georgia, a state that has banned access to higher education for undocumented and DACAmented students. This documentary shows us what it means to grow up both American and undocumented in the US.

 

First-Gen Week: Alumni Panel & First-Gen Connections

Date & Time: Nov 5, 2025, 12-1:30pm & 4:30-5:30pm

Location: Virtual (Register Here for Zoom Link) | ARCenter Courtyard

A space for First-Gen students to hear alumni stories and receive advice on personal, academic, and professional development. Learn practical networking tips and gain guidance on building meaningful connections from our Career Success Specialist, Bridge Kennedy. Practice your networking skills at our First-Gen Mixer.

 

First-Gen Week: Know Your Rights Workshop
Date & Time:
 Nov 6, 2025, 11 am - 12 pm
Location: Cervantes & Velasquez Conference Room
Learn about your legal rights and the resources available to you with UCSC’s new UCIMM attorney, Lily Ana W. Sturgis. Each workshop will include Hot Topics like Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, U Visas, family petitions, DACA, and more. We’ll finish with an Open Forum, giving students the chance to lead the conversation by asking questions and suggesting future topics.

 

First-Gen Week: A Trailblazer's Mental Health Workshop
Date & Time:
 Nov 6, 2025, 2:00-3:30pm
Location: C9 & JRL Namaste Lounge
An opportunity to connect with your peers about the first-gen experience and learn from CAPS staff about Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).

 

First-Gen Week: Financial Aid Info Session
Date & Time:
 Nov 7, 2025, 1:00-2:00pm
Location: Virtual - Register via Zoom link here.
An information-sharing session with a Q&A portion, providing an overview of the financial aid application process for both FAFSA and CADAA. Learn about required documents, key deadlines, and other essential details to help you navigate financial aid and maximize your resources.

 

Alongside our events, we also invite you to read through our First-Gen Week Zine which features multiple UCSC First-Gen staff who have shared their journeys navigating as first-gen students.
